Testing Information

The FHS counseling team has resources for the ASVAB, TSI testing, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and prep work to help you navigate towards your next step.

ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)

The ASVAB at Forney High School will be offered twice a year. This is not a commitment to join the military, but a test to measure how you currently rank if you are considering pursuing a military career. If you are interested in taking this assessment, please see your counselor or look for the registration link that will be sent out in the fall and spring.

TSI Testing

The TSI Assessment (TSIA) is part of the Texas Success Initiative program designed to help your college or university determine if you are ready for college-level course work in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. If you are an incoming college student in Texas, you are required to take the TSI Assessment to determine your readiness for college-level work.  TSIA is also required to take dual credit courses.

TSI Assessment (TSIA) college readiness benchmarks:

  • Reading - 945

  • Mathematics - 950

  • Writing -

    • (A) a placement score of at least 945, and an essay score of at least 5; OR

    • (B) a placement score of < 945 and an ABE Diagnostic level of at least 5 and an essay score of at least 5.

Before you take the TSI Assessment, you must participate in a Pre-Assessment Activity . Students will create an account, then select TSI Pre-Assessment Activity. *Results must be provided/uploaded before testing can take place. Consequently, it is advised to save the Certificate of Completion for easy access.

FHS will be offering the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) at Forney High School once a month, on Saturdays throughout the school year.  Forney ISD will be offering this test free of charge to all CURRENT 9th- 12th grade students, with 2 attempts allowed. Want to learn more before signing up? Check out the info here for the campus testing dates and registration links: TSI Saturday Testing Flyer

Students can prepare for the TSI test by accessing the free TSI study resources available at Accuplacer TSI Study App.

PSAT Testing

The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test that 11th graders (and some 10th graders) take in October. Like the SAT, it measures the knowledge and skills in reading, writing, and math students learn in the classroom—the same knowledge and skills your child needs to succeed in college and career.  Information on registration is sent out at the beginning of the school year.

AP Testing

Each student enrolled in an AP class has the opportunity to take the AP exam(s) in May.  Students will register in their AP classroom account and the fees will be paid in Skyward.  Students who receive free/reduced lunch are able to receive reduced pricing for exams.

SAT/ACT Testing

Many students and parents begin the college prep process by comparing the ACT and SAT tests. The SAT and ACT generally cover the same topics. Both ACT and SAT scores are used for college admissions decisions and awarding merit-based scholarships. Most colleges do not prefer one test over the other. Neither the SAT or ACT is harder than the other. Different students tend to do better on one test over the other.
